Arbaro's rankings for the June 2024 Premiere Poll

These June rankings double as the community's best guess about who's likely to bring a J-shaped trophy home from Pasadena. No matter who wins, it's going to be a huge story in the context of their recent play. Numbers in parentheses refer to the ( Premiere Poll ranking | my ranking ) for May. NR stands for "Not Ranked". Want to argue about this? Join our Discord ! 1 ALEX THACH (2 | 3) Back-to-back CTM winner. World record holder. Only dropped one game in his CTL division for the second consecutive season (just don't ask what happened in the playoffs). Gets a rollover nearly every set. Hard to top this guy right now. 2 FRACTAL (1 | 1) Fractal was beat three times this month, by Andy, Noah Dengler, and Sidnev. All three losses were in deciders, though, and he's still taking down plenty of top-level opponents. And a trip to Pasadena might be just the thing to give him a shot in the arm. 3 BLUE SCUTI (6 | 7) Don't sleep on Blue Scooter. He's the on...

This Week in Tetris: May 21-27

It's now less than two weeks from the start of CTWC, and the big online tournaments are reaching a crescendo in anticipation of it. CTM Challengers is complete and the Masters semifinals are set, while CTL's regular season wrapped up with some huge matches. Whoever takes home the titles will go into Pasadena with momentum (and a fair chunk of pocket change besides). A quick housekeeping announcement: this project now has a Discord server , where you can talk about This Week in Tetris (or any week in Tetris, really). I'll be posting regular updates as I put posts together, as well as more free-form thoughts and stuff I uncover that doesn't make the blog. We'd love to have you. The numbers next to the players are their May Premiere Poll rankings, not their tournament seeds. Scores in the tables are given in thousands; an (i) or (a) next to a score indicates that the topout was intentional or aggressive, respectively. As always, let me know if you found this ent...

This Week in Tetris: May 14-20

Two more weeks remain until CTWC, and while just a few months ago there seemed to be an elite group of half a dozen or so world-beaters, everything seems much more open now. This week contained even more shock results in CTM and CTL, and we'd expect nothing more going into the last week of the CTL regular season and the final two brackets of the CTM Masters Event. The numbers next to the players are their May Premiere Poll rankings, not their tournament seeds. Scores in the tables are given in thousands; an (i) or (a) next to a score indicates that the topout was intentional or aggressive, respectively. As always, let me know if you found this entertaining or useful, or if there's anything else you'd like to see. I'm incredibly grateful for everyone who's given me feedback or encouragement so far. Classic Tetris Monthly Brackets two and three of this month's Masters Event are in the books, and they were both compelling for completely different reasons. Man...

This Week in Tetris: May 6-13

I'm not sure how there are so many classic matches every week in Classic Tetris. Maybe we should've known, since "classic" is there in the name. In any case, there's a lot to talk about. Quick housekeeping note: I'm going to change it so that the weeks covered in this column start on Tuesday and end on Monday, with the post coming out on Wednesday (or, in hopefully rare cases, Thursday). This will give me an extra day to catch up on the weekend's action. Today's post covers 8 days for that reason (and also includes some matches from May 5 that were omitted for deadline reasons). The numbers next to the players are their May Premiere Poll rankings, not their tournament seeds. Scores in the tables are given in thousands; an (i) or (a) next to a score indicates that the topout was intentional or aggressive, respectively. CTWC Motor City Mayhem The last regional before CTWC happened in the Detroit burbs this past weekend, and a good number of top roll...
